We at FirstLight believe children are a gift and a blessing from God. There is no higher calli
ng than caring for the little ones God has entrusted to us. We promise to love and encourage your children as they begin their journey of faith. We welcome you to visit us at any time.

FirstSteps and The Studio
- The ministry that is designed for our youngest disciples is called FirstSteps. FirstSteps includes the nursery and the preschool classroom - for ages birth through 5 years old or children that will be attending Kindergarten in the fall. In 2007, FirstSteps will be learning and playing with four major disciplines in mind: Prayer, Bible, Giving, and Love. Each discipline is a building block for young children to become future disciples. As nursery worker and Sunday school teachers within FirstSteps teach and play with children, their focus will be on each of these four building blocks.
- The ministry that is designed for our elementary-age students is called The Studio. The Studio is for children that are in Kindergarten through Fourth grade. Children that are a part of The Studio are constantly engaged in meaningful conversations about the Lord our God as they explore bible verses, have small group discussions, and are lead by caring and inspiring ministry volunteers.

The Seedling
The Seedling is another tool we use to keep you in touch and informed. It is a newsletter that is updated Monthly. Information in The Seedling includes news from the ministry, parenting tips for Christian parents, ways to grow in Christ-likeness, and opportunities to give the Children's Ministry Team your feedback. The Seedling can be downloaded here, or you can pick up a current copy at the children's check-in table on Sundays.

Children in Mission
The Children's Ministry will focus on a local mission every other month. For example, children donated new packages of socks and underwear for foster children in Wyandotte County during the month of March. Donations were presented to KVC Behavioral Health care, where the items are given to children in need. This mission is in line with our mission statement, as we CHANGE the world through Christian discipleship and service.

During our focused missions, Sunday school teachers and other ministry volunteers will use natural opportunities to tie the donations in with the lesson each week. The children will develop a sense of identity through FirstLight while we continue to build character grow together in community.

Please know that these bi-monthly missions are in addition to our ongoing mission of providing Christian love and support to American soldiers that are serving in Iraq, through artwork and letters.

What will my child learn?
All of our lessons and group studies for children are based upon 3 Basic Truths—Wisdom, Faith, and Friendship. This model comes from the Scriptural Passage of Luke 2:52, "…and Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man."

We at FirstLight want every child who participates in The Studio (K- 4th grade) to say…
1. I NEED TO MAKE THE WISE CHOICE

2. I CAN TRUST GOD NO MATTER WHAT!

3. I SHOULD TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WANT TO BE TREATED!

For infants and toddlers (birth to pre-K) in FirstSteps, our goal is to have them understand that…
1. GOD MADE ME

2. GOD LOVES ME

3. JESUS WANTS TO BE MY BEST FRIEND FOREVER

Get Involved
The Children's Ministry Team at FirstLight is always on the lookout for inspired adults to join in ministry. If you care about children and you "love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul soul, and with all your strength," (Deuteronomy 6:5). You can serve in the way of prayer, toy sanitizing, buying supplies, replacing batteries, working the children's check-in table, helping set-up on Sunday mornings or tearing-down after services, assist a lead teacher on Sundays, teach a class, work in the nursery with FirstLight's youngest crowd, or by using any other gifts and talents you have!

“Central to the Christian

experience is the art of

questioning God. Not

belligerent, arrogant

questions that have no

respect for our maker, but

naked, honest, vulnerable,

raw questions, arising out of

the awe that comes from

engaging the living God.”
