God loves rediculously messed up people. Not the perfect
or the ones who have their acts all together. But the ones
who struggle with putting their foot in their mouth and
being self-consumed. God repeatedly takes the imperfect
and works good things in their lives. This is the basis
of our sermon series.
When we are honest to ourselves, we will see that we too
have our character flaws. And instead of dismissing ourselves
as those on the "outside" of the spiritual life,
we're going to learn from the spiritually challenged people
in the Old Testament. How can we find God by connecting
to the stories of Old Testament? How can solidarity with
their stories provide hope for us in our lives?
Over the next weeks, we will be looking into the stories
of the Old Testament's biggest "stars." And as
we see their blemishes, we will find hope for ourselves
and how our "messed-upness" puts us right on
God's radar. Join us this Sunday.

Beginning Sunday August 12th
The difference between Jesus and Church can
seem gigantic. But what if Church can rediscover
its Jesus-ness? What if we understood that
Jesus was interested in more than personal
happiness or where our souls went when we died?
What if Church created an environment where
people can ask honest, raw questions about
faith? What if Church wasn't a place we "went to," something we "attended," as
we would "attend" a meeting, or somewhere
we became "members" like a large grocery
store with secret handshakes. What if Church referred
to a bunch of imperfect people with real struggles
who are learning to love each other as Jesus loves.
"Church for the Rest of Us" will explore
how the Jesus-ness of Church can be reclaimed as
Church is reimagined. Join the conversation on
August 12th. |
