As “a new kind of church,” FirstLight is bold enough to embrace tradition and to challenge tradition. This describes a lot about our Worship Style. The categories of “traditional” or “contemporary” do not really fit us.

During worship you will see Tradition embraced through:

• Celebrating Holy Communion weekly that is open to all

• Reading of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds

• Singing old hymns “gone acoustic”

• Incorporating ancient spiritual practices such as Lectio Divina, silence, and meditation


You will see Tradition challenged or re-imagined through:

• Allowing space for artistic expressions of worship

• Offering time for creative, tactile forms of prayer and reflection

• Singing new Christian songs with the help of a talented band

• Embracing corporate dialogue as an appropriate act of worship
