Would you like to particpate in Missions? Here is a comprehensive list of current and upcoming Missions.
Cross-Lines - Prepare and serve breakfast to the working poor and the homeless in Kansas City, Kansas at Cross-Lines. Prepare sack lunches for distribution to the working poor. Frequency of event - each month that has 5 Saturdays, we serve on the 5th Saturday. In 2011, this is in January, April, July, October & December. Organizer - Carol Zimmerman.
Neighbor to Neighbor - Prepare and serve dinner to the poor/homeless in Kansas City, Missouri at Revolution Church. Frequency of event - the 1st Tuesday of each month. Organizer - varies by month.
Missions Fundraiser Breakfast - Prepare and serve breakfast before church for donations to fund Mission events throughout year. Tentatively scheduled in April. Organizer - Tonya Pearson
Birthday Bag Collection - Collect items for birthday party in a bag for the Gardner Multi-Service Center. Contents include cake mix, frosting, candles, plates, napkins, forks. Frequency of event - once per year, scheduled for June, 2011. Organizer - Carol Zimmerman
Multi Service Center (MSC) - Perform collections as needs are expressed by the Gardner Multi-Service Center - includes food/clothing/paper products. Frequency - throughout year - scheduled for 2011: Install shelving at MSC in March, Food/Clothing in March, Back to School Supply Drive in July. Organizer - Carol Zimmerman.
Extreme Home Makeover - Select 1-2 houses with great needs in Gardner in conjunction with the MSC. Locations TBD, but targeting June for home/yard repair. Organizer - Brad Wheeler.
FirstLight Activity Fund at GEHS - Provide a financial fund at the High School for students who need assistance with tuition, school lunches, and extra-curricular activities. Fundraising for this account will begin in May through a Penny War and contest to pie a paid member of FL staff in the face! Organizer - TBD.
The Prom Project- Providing Prom/formal dresses, accessories, jewelry, shoes, makeup, etc free of charge to high school females without proof of need. Scheduled Spring 2012. Accepting donations in all sizes- especially sizes 14+. Organizer- Tonya Vernon
Bishop's Round-up for Hunger - Collections by the Kansas East Conference that benefit agencies in Kansas, Haiti and Mexico. Collections include food, health kits, school kits, etc. and are delivered to a site in Lawrence mid-November. Frequency - once per year. Organizer - Karen Windes.
Mayor's Christmas for Children - 'Adopt' children whose families meet certain income guidelines and purchase new gifts for Christmas. Gifts include clothing, shoes, coats and toys and are due by mid-December for distribution to the families. Frequency - once per year in late November/early December. Organizer - Carol Zimmerman & Karen Windes.
Christmas Cookie Giveaway - Donate baked cookies at the Christmas Eve services to repackage and distribute to those that have to work on Christmas. Frequency - one per year at Christmas Eve Eve and Christmas Eve services. Organizer - TBD
